Resumo:
Tracheal collapse is a degenerative and disabling disease, characterized by causing
changes in the composition of the hyaline cartilage of the tracheal rings and tracheal
dorsal muscle of dogs, causing the dynamic collapse of the trachea when breathing.
Predominantly affects middle-aged and elderly dogs of small size. The diagnosis can be
done by means of physical assessment, simple x-rays, endoscopy and fluoroscopy,
being the last more sensitive. The clinical treatment is not always effective, being the
surgical treatment as indicated, especially in more advanced degrees of the disease, with
the goal of recovering the tracheal integrity, thus maintaining respiratory function.
Based on improvement in clinical picture of animals undergoing surgery, we can
conclude that implanted prostheses, provide repair in tracheal segment of the dogs,
allowing them to develop a normal breath, promoting the increase of the quality of life
of these patients and minimizes the risk of death caused by the disease.
