Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of growth and housing of different
genotypes goats feedlot. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Station of
Dispute, belonging to EMEPA (Agricultural Research Company S. Paraíba) in the
municipality of Soledade - PB, it was carried out from March to May of 2013. Using 30
entire male goats (10 crossbred F1 Boer x SPRD, 10 crossbred F1 Savannah x SPRD
and 10 crossbred F1 Pardo Alpine x SPRD), with approximately 14 ± 2 kg liveweight,
120 days old. At the beginning of the experiment and every 14 days, the animals were
weighed, always at 7 am, after fasting for 16 hours. It was established as a criterion for
slaughter 25 kg live weight or maximum of 63 days of confinement. . The animals were
hand fed ad libitum with a unique and complete diet. The animals were distributed in a
completely randomized design, with 3 treatments and 10 replicates per treatment,
totaling 30 installments. It Was significant effect (P< 0,05) genotype on the
confinement period (PC), where de Boer crossbred animals took less time to reach the
slaughter weight than the mestizos of Savannah and Pardo Alpine. There was no
significant influence (P> 0,05) genotypes for Live weight at slaughter fasting (PVAJ),
Hot carcass weight (PCQ) and Hot carcass yield (WHR). It is concluded that the
mestizos of boer goats gained more weight in a shorter period of confinement. Already
carcass yield difference occurred only in fat and bone variables.
