Résumé:
Juazeiro do Norte is a city located in the countryside of Ceará state which has experienced an intense growth in the last years. This accelerated growth, coupled with a lack of urban planning, has brought negative consequences for the city regarding road mobility and accessibility. This work aims to solve (or minimize) the problems of one of the most important commercial streets of the city, São Pedro street, which has a strong flow of people and vehicles daily and a lot of problems in the traffic and sidewalks structure. São Pedro Street is an example of a very busy public space, where pedestrians lost their space in order to favour the vehicles traffic. For this purpose, it was made a deepening in the literature on public spaces, mobility, accessibility, space syntax, urban design, for the construction of the theoretical reference and a diagnosis of the area under study. Thus, problems on the street were observed and the issues to be solved were raised, resulting in two scenarios, one short term and another one long term, with proposals of urban requalification for the street.
