Resumo:
The dorsal fixation of the patella is a joint locomotor pathology affecting large animals. The
displacement can be unilateral or bilateral, temporary or permanent and has no gender
preference and although there was no great risk of death to the animal, can cause serious
economic losses to the owners. As the main form of treatment for this pathology we have
desmotomy patellar medial. Which is the section of the medial patellar ligament, knee
anatomy knowledge and the location of the patellar ligaments and nearby structures are
essential for success in performing the technique, the goal this study was know the anatomy
and thereby indicate the safest point for holding the desmotomy patellar in cattle, were
palpated, dissected and measured the patellar ligaments ten knees bovines donated by the
animal pathology laboratory UFCG. For point determination insurance realization of
desmotomy were considered: the route of each ligament from its origin to its insertion and the
length, width and thickness of each of the ligaments. The points of origin and ligament
insertion are important to prevent other nearby structures may be damaged during the
procedure; the length, width and thickness are important to determine the that height must be
made the incision on ligament, the length of it and the appropriate depth for which occurs
complete rupture of the ligament. The medial patellar ligament submitted a length median
11.7 cm, a similar width of the patellar ligament intermediate with 1.8 cm and a thickness
smaller than the others with 0.3 cm. The proposed point for safe desmotomy was
approximately 2 to 3 cm above the insertion site, 2.5 cm long, with a depth of approximately
0.4 cm immediately after the touch scalpel tip the ligament.
