Resumo:
Entomological indicators of Trypanossoma cruzi in the backlands of Paraiba. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of regions Sousa and Patos for
maintenance of Chagas disease in the state of Paraiba in the periods 2005 to 2015. A descriptive
retrospective study was carried out through consultations with epidemiological data of the
Chagas disease control program of regional endemics laboratories of the Sixth and Tenth
Regional Center of Paraiba Health, where the following data collection and identification of the
insects were selected, detection and identification of T. cruzi. Entomological indicators of
triatomine dispersion index were analyzed (DT), domiciliary infestation (ID), natural infection
(IN) by T. cruzi. 20,418 insects were captured. Entomological indexes for the micro de Sousa and
Patos had an average total of 39.5% dispersion index and 9.6% infestation rate of 4.2% and 0.5%
and the positivity rate of 0.3% and 0.4% respectively. The species with the greatest number of
insects with the potential vector for T. cruzi were Triatoma brasiliensis, Triatoma
pseudomaculata, Panstrongilus lutzi. Given the results of this study we can conclude that it was
verified the presence of triatomine in the regions of Patos and Sousa. The microregion of Patos
noteworthy since had the highest entomological indices. Given the above it is suggested that the
control measures are intensified by the responsible bodies in the regions to prevent the
transmission of Chagas disease, control and eradication of triatomine vectors.
