Abstract:
The objective of this study was to describe the applied anatomy of the respiratory system,
focusing on the trachea and lung of the monkeys (Sapajus libidinosus), identifying possible
accesses for tracheostomy, tracheotomy and thoracentesis, as well as identification of lung
lobation. Ten cadavers of adult animals were used, preserved in 10% formaldehyde. In the
analysis of bronchial tree, transparent acetic silicone was injected and then dissected. The
trachea presented 32 rings on average, and emitted the main bronchi, which on the right side
branched into the cranial, middle, caudal and accessory lobar bronchi, while on the left side the
cranial and caudal lobe bronchi, which were divided into 47 distributed segmental bronchi In
the lungs. In the right lung the cranial, middle, caudal and accessory lobes were identified, while
in the left the cranial and caudal lobes. Finally, the spaces for tracheostomy and tracheotomy
between the 1st and 3rd ring or between the 9th and 11th ring were delimited, and for
thoracentesis the 7th or 8th intercostal space. And with delimitation of the pulmonary
auscultation field in the ventral margin of the midline of the thorax, dorsal costochondral joints,
from the second intercostal space to the seventh intercostal space. The monkey-prey (Sapajus
libidinosus) showed similarity to other wild animals, such as the Saimiri sciureus, in the number
of tracheal rings, however it differs from humans and domestic animals to the number of
pulmonary lobes.
