Vitrification of bovine embryos (literature review). The concept of vitrification can be defined as the solidification of a liquid, which is the extreme elevation of the viscosity during the cooling process and not by crystallization. Thus, it becomes possible to cool the embryo, passing the liquid to the glassy state without the formation of ice crystals intracellular and extracellular. The basic principle is that the glazing speed of cryopreservation depends on the weight and area of the sample. They are related as follows: the lower mass and greater area of the solution structure or tissue to be cryopreserved, the higher must be the temperature lowering speed so that there is formation of ice crystals. The only disadvantage of vitrification compared to freezing, is that the vitrification greater amount of cryoprotectants is necessary, but to avoid this problem can make the association several intracellular and extracellular cryoprotectants, which is where the strategy for the success of the technique . The objective of this study was to report the methods used for vitrification of bovine embryos.
