Resumo:
Anesthesiology is an area of veterinary medicine that has been developing considerably in
recent years, due to the need and demand for techniques that reduce pre, trans and
postoperative pain, also based on other problems resulting from the inadequate use of
tranquillizers and Anesthetics. Anesthesiology is an area that although it is of routine
application, needs additional care for its execution, and several factors are involved in the
complications that follow in the pre-anesthetic, trans-anesthetic, and post-anesthetic phases.
The complications that occur in the anesthetic-surgical acts are very common. Problems due
to technical failure by the anesthesiologist and the equipment used, as well as the lack of
knowledge about the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of the drugs used, applied to each
category of patients, Such as hepatopathies, nephropathies, geriatric, neonates, pregnant and
obese, each of which has its anatomical and physiological characteristics. This review will
address the main anesthetic care in small animals, the professional training of the
anesthesiologist, as well as the pre-anesthetic evaluation, during the surgical-anesthetic
procedure, and the postoperative.
