Surgeons from all medical fields have been challenged in the search for a suitable
surgical technique for repair of muscle or organs defects and, therefore, the use of organic
biomaterials advantages were seen, in view of its power attenuating the tensile strength and
act for a long period while maintaining the asepsis of the material still being inexpensive and
easy to handle. The porcine articular cartilage is among the vast number of biological tissues
that can be used as organic biomaterial, which is devoid of vascularization has low cellularity
and toxicity, and thus are resistant to infection, healing and pathologically affected tissues and
capable of forming according to the application site. The scope of this study is to evaluate
clinically and histologically the repair of rabbit muscle with the implementation of swine
auricular cartilage preserved in glycerin. For this 18 rabbits were used in which were
surgically created two wounds in the abdominal muscles. In one of the wounds was held just
myorrafy (Control group - CoG) and other wound beyond myorrafy was implanted on this
one swine auricular cartilage preserved in glycerin (Cartilage group - CaG). The animals were
divided into three time points: three, seven, and eleven postoperative days, with six animals in
each. The clinical and histopathologic analysis revealed adherence of omentum with the main
muscles in the suture region, without signs of reaction or failure of both scar tissue on swine
auricular cartilage at all times evaluation. The histological results confirmed the incorporation
of the prosthesis to the biological receptor site without evidence of complications, with
inflammatory reaction in booth groups, more intense in CaG. It was concluded that the swine
auricular cartilage may be used in the repair of muscle and does not cause adverse reactions.
