In the routine the Medical Clinic of Canines and Felines there are numerous pathologies, among them pyometra, fairly common condition and it has great merit among those that affect the reproductive system. The aim of this study was a retrospective study of cases of this disease diagnosed in the Medical Clinic of Canine and Feline sector of the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Campina Grande (HV/UFCG), Patos campus - PB, in the period comprising between the years 2010 to 2014. By studying the medical records of dogs and cats met will be shown the following data were evaluated: the species, age, type of pyometra (open or closed) and the animal did not use or contraceptive. It was observed that the number of cases of pyometra at HV / UFCG was lower than expected. With regard to species studied, it was observed a greater number of cases in dogs than in cats. Regarding age, it was found that the middle-aged animals (two to six) are the most affected in both species. In the case of the patency of the cervix, the pyometra open cervix was the most common. With regard to the use of contraceptives, it was found that most homeowners make use of progestogens, favoring the development of this condition. Thus, it concludes, before the results, the fact of pyometra in the series HV/UFCG have been lower than expected occurs probably due to the non-disclosure of disease approached with owners. This lack of knowledge, not only about the disease, as well as on the factors that predispose to the widespread use of contraceptives, makes the owners fail to take their pets to the vet care for lack of information.
