Resumo:
Gender relations are built in society, where roles and functions related to genders are
culturally defined. Although societies are in constant transformation, it is still possible to
observe that many of these attributions linked to men and women persist to this day,
influencing the know-how of the professions. The university environment, as a place where
people are trained, becomes important to reinforce the debate and deconstruct these roles
linked to binarism. This research aims to understand the conception of nursing students about
the relationship between gender and professional training. The research has a qualitative
descriptive and exploratory approach carried out in a public institution of higher education in
the countryside of a city in the state of Paraíba-Brazil with 16 undergraduate students. The
data were obtained through a semi-structured script and analyzed by Bardin's Content
Analysis. It was observed that the gender construction influences the professional training in
the Nursing Course, so that it has a stereotype of female profession, being devalued in
detriment to other professions due to the feminization of work in society. The sexual division
of labor, gender inequalities and situations of violence such as the Bropriating phenomenon
and the hypersexualization of the female body were evidenced in the students' speeches, in
addition to highlighting the institutional challenges and the teachers' fragility in the
deconstruction of gender relations during graduation. The study shows a situation of gender
inequality emphasized by undergraduate nursing students, signaling the need for institutional
rearrangement and awareness of teachers and the academic community to offer an inclusive,
egalitarian education based on diversity.
