The human immune system is responsible for defending the body against
strangers and pathogens. It is well known that the intake of vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin
C and vitamin D, and minerals such as iron, magnesium and zinc, provide a better
performance of the vital functions of the organism, since there is a direct relationship between
nutrition and immunity. These micronutrients act in several areas of the human body and
play key roles, since inadequate nutritional status can
alter the metabolism of chemical reactions and influence the frequency of infections, whether
they are bacterial or viral. The objective of this work was to analyze the
importance of nutrient consumption and its relationship with the functioning of the
immune. The methodology used was an integrative literature review, in
which the data search took place in the Google Scholar electronic databases,
PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo and international and national health committees, and were descriptors:
1) vitamins; 2) minerals; 3) nutrients; 4) immune system. were included in this
work, materials referring to the last ten years, that is, between the years 2012 to 2022.
After the searches, fifty-five (55) articles were found, being worked on a
total of forty-nine (49). It is important to carry out a data collection
on this topic, to inform and make people aware of the benefits arising from
nutrient intake and the relationship with the immune system. The pharmacist stands out
as one of the professionals with competence to guide the population on the subject,
because in addition to being part of the multiprofessional health team, they have direct contact with the
public, making it possible to disseminate information.
