The present work have as objective revises the prophylaxis and methods of control of the
intoxications for plants belonging to the group that cause sudden death when associated to
the physical exercise, as well the mechanism of action of poisonous beginning, clinical
signs, economical impacts, pathological alterations and epidemiology. The intoxications
for plants in cattle animals have matter importance in areas where the handling of the
pasturing is made in an extensive way. Among the herbivores, the ruminant ones are the
most susceptible. In Brazil, half of the deaths for intoxication for plants is caused by the
ingestion of plants that contains fluoroacetato of sodium (MFA) these cause sudden death
when associated to the physical exercise. MFA acts at cellular level, interfering in the cycle
of Krebs, impeding the production of ATP and accumulating citrate intracellular. This
intoxication happens commonly in bovine and with smaller frequency in goats and sheeps.
The symptomatology is sharp, the death befalls when it trains after the ingestion of the
plant, occasions this, promoted by the largest need of the contribution of ATP, tends as
cause of the death the sharp heart inadequacy. In the necropsya, it is described as main
histological alteration with form of degeneration hydropic-vacuolar degeneration of the
distal convoluted uriniferous tubule and marked nuclear pkynosis of groups delimited of
cells. Several alternative methods exist for the control of these intoxications, all of them
with their limitations, but they are already determined and they can be used for such
purpose. However it is necessary the accomplishment of more researches to perfect and to
define the death has as inadequacy.
