Abstract:
Pleuropneumonia in horses: a retrospective study of cases treated at the Veterinary Hospital from 2005 to 2015. The good condition of the respiratory system is very important for health and athletic performance of horses, so diseases that affect this system will have serious economic and health consequences of these animals. There are studies that describe various etiologies(infectious, immune-mediated and injury) that occur with various diseases, either in the way before or after respiratory areas. Among the pathologies of the posterior airway are shown the pleuropneumonias, these may be caused by pneumonia extension of bacterial, fungal, parasitic and / or immune-mediated primary or from trauma. The aim of this study was a retrospective clinical study of cases of pleuropneumonia in horses treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG-Patos / PB), between the years 2005 to 2015, this study was conducted through survey data contained in medical records, the etiologic data were reviewed, epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic, pathological cases diagnosed in addition to the cases of literature review published in articles and journals. It has been seen in this study that there is no preference between the different etiologic agents by race, sex, or age, and yes, the epidemiological factors that were to enable the outbreak of pleuropneumonia. The principal means which enabled the diagnosis were auscultation lung field, drainage and pleural lavage. Additional tests such as imaging tests (ultrasound) were of paramount importance to assess the extent of the changes, the involvement of adjacent structures, monitor the clinical evolution of the patient, to determine the effectiveness of the treatment, as well as help determine the prognosis.
