Resumen:
The visceral canine leishmaniosis is as a grave public health problem scattered throughout
the country. The reason for such situation it is characterized by the facility in which the
transmission occurs, with the combining factor of a high population of insects that act as
vectors for such sickness. For it is not an illness of obligatory notification, the
epidemiological data is not enough to get an accurate idea of the scenario of the disease.
As it is portrayed in this paper, the measures taken by the Brazilian government have
shown its ineffectiveness in fighting the problem for a long time now, making the urge for
new methods even more latent. In different parts of the globe the use of a variety of
substances has shown results at both treating and preventing the spread of the visceral
canine leishmaniosis. Vaccines are being developed, medication is used as therapeutic
treatment, and insect repellents play a role at preventing the transmission. However, not
every substance referred to above is available in national territory, limiting and narrowing
the spectrum of methods existents for controlling and preventing the disease, making it
imperative researches and studies on such products.
