Resumo:
The epidural and subdural anesthetic techniques are safe procedures, cheap and simple
application routinely used in the practice of veterinary medicine for small animals for
procedure of posterior region of the animal and / or to prevent / treat pain, with the
advantage of providing longer action to administered analgesics, when compared to other
routes of administration. Its great advantage the possibility of using various drugs such as
local anesthetics of distinctive features, opioids, NMDA blockers and agonists alpha 2-
adrenergic receptors, and can even the combination of these drugs. This work aims to
answer questions and assist veterinarians for fear or lack of knowledge about the use of
these techniques, do not use in their medical routine, and also warn about the problems
they can cause if used in inappropriate way.
