Serological and molecular diagnosis of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis in dairy cattle herds in the state of Paraíba. Paratuberculosis, also known as Jonhe's disease, is a chronic infectious-contagious disease caused by a bacillus acid-fast acid called Mycobacterium avium subsp. Paratuberculosis (MAP), which causes enteritis and granulomatous lymphadenitis and is distributed worldwide, with the capacity to affect several species, such as sheep, goats, wild ruminants, horses, swine, hares, foxes, rodents and especially cattle. The disease is important for economics because it causes reduced food efficiency, reduced milk production, reduced slaughter weight, low reproductive efficiency and increased sanitary costs; And public health, due to the possible zoonotic character of the disease. In Brazil, cases of paratuberculosis have been reported in cattle in some states of the South, Southeast and Northeast regions. This work aimed to carry out a serological and molecular study, through ELISA and PCR, to determine the presence of Mycobacterium avium subsp. Paratuberculosis (MAP) on rural properties with seropositive animals in the State of Paraíba. We evaluated 45 blood samples and milk from cattle from Quixaba, Santa Luzia and João Pessoa. A negative result was observed in the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test and a positive result in eight samples by ELISA. The results suggest that paratuberculosis may be occurring in the subclinical form in the dairy herds studied, indicating the need to expand the studies of isolation and identification of the agent in the region.
