Resumo:
Cases of cutaneous Habronemosis and Pythiosis in equines served at the Veterinary Hospital/CSTR/ UFCG, Patos – PB, between the years 2008 is 2017. Pythiosis and cutaneous habronemias are pathologies that compromise the equine's comfort
causing extensive lesions, and requiring laborious treatment and a complicated recovery. The
objective of this study was to seek and to analyze the frequency and the casuistry of how
occurs the appearance of cutaneous Habronemose and Pythiosis in the Veterinary Hospital. A
retrospective study about two dermatopathies of skin that affect horses was carried out,
known as cutaneous habronemias and pythiosis, in the region of the Northeastern Semi-arid
region. The records of care were analyzed in the Great Animals Clinic of the Veterinary
Hospital of the Federal University of Campina Grande, from August 2008 to April 2017.
During the research, 2482 equidaes operations were performed, of which 2298 (92.58%) were
equine and 37 cases of cutaneous habronemosis and 49 cases of cutaneous pythiosis were
diagnosed in different sex, race and age group. The cases were confirmed by medical history,
clinical examination and histopathology. It was also observed and discussed the clinical
findings that differentiate acute cutaneous habronemosis from chronic and the aspects of
pythiosis according to what was found in the clinical records, as well as the type of treatment
used in the VH/UFCG and comparing this information with the literature. Therefore, about
the results and analysis of the study it was observed that the habronemosis and cutaneous
pythiosis are pathologies present in the northeastern semi-arid region that cause a loss of the
quality of life of the animal, causing damage to the owners and contributing with the number
of visits in the HV/UFCG.
