Sanitary and Parasitological Aspects of Primates in Captivity: Systematic Literature Review. Parasitic infections in captive-bred primates can have severe consequences for this
species since parasites are agents of diseases that influence the health of
ecosystems, both in natural environments and in captive environments. In this sense,
this study is a systematic review of the literature in order to understand the sanitary
and parasitological aspects of captive-bred primates. Surveys were carried out in the
following research databases: Scielo, Veterinary journals, periodicals, postgraduate
theses, monographs and books, from 2007 to 2017, where according to the
adequacy to the theme, an initial selection was made By title and, subsequently, by
reading the summaries. The articles read in full were selected for final review, and
thus twenty studies met the inclusion criteria. Studies that identified cestodes,
nematodes, trematodes, protozoa and ectoparasites were carried out, with the
prevalence of the number of studies that identified nematodes. There were three
studies that indicated the presence of zoonotic parasites and one that indicated the
presence of ectoparasites. It was concluded that the academic literature dealing with
this subject is quite extensive, which gives students and veterinary professionals a
better qualification when it comes to a specialization that deal with these aspects in
captive-bred primates.
