Resumen:
Canine anxiety syndrome. This work aims to raise awareness among the population about some behavioral
problems related to the humanization of animals, especially the dog. In Brazil, the
population has been worrying a lot about animal welfare, but very little is studied about
the area of behavior, which is extremely important, because through emotional
disturbances, the animal can trigger a poor quality of life , Due to the reduction of
immunity, also affecting the endocrine and autonomic nervous systems, as well as
generating physical disorders in the animal, such as mutilating due to stress. Due to the
domestication process, dogs began to present behavioral disorders, such as depression,
phobias and separation anxiety. Through humanization and the exaggerated treatment
given to these animals, besides the fact that the dog can not express its natural behavior
of its kind , Physiological changes occur in animals due to the anxiety stress, which is
the second major behavioral problem, behind only the aggression. It has been observed
that animals that come from shelters and adoptees have a higher prevalence of
presenting separation anxiety syndrome, although it affects all ages and all races, if it is
more characteristic in dogs between 9 months to 2 years of age and Elderly dogs. The
most observed clinical signs are excessive vocalizations, urination and inappropriate
defecation, and destructive behaviors, usually directed at doors and windows. Through
behavioral techniques such as desensitisation and counterconditioning, besides drug
therapy, the anxiety picture can be reversed. Through the lack of orientation of the
owners in how to deal with behavioral diseases, some cases generate the abandonment
and even euthanasia of the same ones.
