Résumé:
The Lagoa da Caraibeira located in the municipality of Baraúna (PB) is a source of
important fossil finds belonging to megafauna of the Pleistocene, so that this event
becomes a great tool to work Paleontology in the schools of the municipality and
region. From this context, this work brought a proposal to work Paleontology in the
third year of high school seeking to apply classes that make use of the fossils found in
Lagoa and other tools to assist in the process. The present study was developed with
students of the third year of Escola Estadual de Ensino Médio Prefeito Severino
Pereira Gomes, where he taught classes about the Pleistocene contextualizing with
the environment of the Lagoa da Caraibeira and the municipality, as well as seeking
practical experiences visiting the Lagoa and the Paleontology Laboratory Universidade
Federal de Campina Grande, Campus Cuité (PB), with the main objective of showing
the importance of the valorization of the fossils found in the city as patrimony. The
methodological procedures of this study were composed of seven stages in a period
from October 16 to November 1 the 2018, beginning with the application of a pre-
assessment questionnaire, a visit to the Lagoa da Caraibeira, two theoretical classes,
as well as the application of a film, in addition to visiting the Universidade Federal de
Campina Grande, Campus de Cuité (PB) and finally a post-evaluation questionnaire,
all of these steps seeking to know how the findings contribute to the teaching of
Paleontology. After the completed activities it was observed that Paleontology is still
at a very early stage in schools and it is important to improve teaching in the area. In
this work it was possible to apply several teaching resources making all the stages
used for the elaboration of the same efficient and very satisfactory, also it is observed
that the use of fossils as auxiliary objects in classes of Palaeontology are very
appreciable. The use of differentiated classes and also materials related to the theme
are efficient, especially with such important findings found in the municipality itself,
therefore this work is of fundamental importance in the dissemination of paleontology
for high school students, and through this, it is possible to observe that the approach
to the subject is scarce at any stage of basic education.
