Anestesia em cães e gatos neonatos - revisão de literatura.

Abstract

Anesthesiology is an area of the veterinary medicine that is constantly developing, seeking to improve and develop new anesthetic and therapeutic procedures in order to provide the animal with a wellbeing before, during and after any painful procedure. The present study aims to highlight the main physiological characteristics of the main systems involved in the anesthesia of the newborn dog and cat, to compare the physiology of the adult animal with the physiology of the newborn animal, thus being able to select the best drugs and develop the best anesthetic protocol for the dog and the newborn cat. Thus, this literature review shows that anesthesia in neonates is a delicate procedure, since anesthetic protocols and drugs need to be chosen considering the immaturity of the animal's organic systems, so as not to weaken it further.
