Abstract:
The objective of the literature review is to describe Toxoplasmosis in felines, evaluating the
clinical characteristics, pathogenesis, identifying the risk factors related to disease in humans
and ways of preventing it, and to describe the role of cats and their importance for the spread
of infection . It is an infectious, parasitic disease that has the cat as a definitive host, releasing
oocysts in feces that can contaminate humans through direct exposure to spores. It is a disease
that has importance in public health, being able to infect the human being via transplacental
and by the ingestion of raw or undercooked meat. Prevention is the most important form of
disease control. Treatment in cats is performed with clindamycin hydrochloride (12.5 to 25
mg / kg, orally, every 12 hours for 28 days). The trimetropin sulfonamide combination (30 mg
/ kg, orally, every 12 hours, for 28 days).
