Brucelose em bovinos encaminhados para eutanásia pela Defesa Agropecuária da Paraíba no Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande.

Abstract

Brucellosis in bovine sent to euthanasia by the Agriculture Defense of Paraíba at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Campina Grande. Brucellosis is a zoonosis that causes great risks to public health and significant economic losses in Brazilian cattle raising, especially for bovine. In this way, the objective of this work was to conduct a survey of cases of bovine brucellosis that were sent to the Animal Pathology Laboratory (LPA) of the UFCG, by the Agriculture Defense of the State of Paraíba, to perform euthanasia. Then the frequency of the disease was determined per year,, breed, age of infected animals, besides sex and geographical distribution of municipalities with diagnosis of bovine brucellosis. During the study period they were necropsied 867 cattle in the LPA of the UFCG, being 20 cases of brucellosis, representing 2.3%. All affected cattle were females, of reproductive age,no race defined and coming from different municipalities in the sertão of Paraíba. Of the 20 cases in this study, seven were from Patos (35%), three from São José de Espinharas (15%), two from Cacimba de Areia (10%), end a case (5%) the municipalities of Piancó, Quixaba, Imaculada and Santa Terezinha. It is believed that several other cases are diagnosed but the animals are not referred for euthanasia at the Veterinary Hospital of this institution.
