Abstract:
Pulmonary aspergillosis in a dog. The aspergillosis is an opportunistic fungal disease caused by different Aspergillus species. It
affects men and animals, usually under immunosuppression. It can present in the nasal,
pulmonary and disseminated forms, which is rarer last. The objective of this study was to
report a case of pulmonary aspergillosis occurred in a dog diagnosed at the Laboratory of
Animal Pathology, Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Campina Grande (LPA /
HV/ UFCG), located in the town of Patos, Paraíba. The case occurred in a male canine
Pinscher, 4 years old, who had anorexia, vomiting, loose stools, dark and fetid, stinking and
concentrated urine. Treatment for hemorrhagic gastroenteritis was established, but the animal
died after a few days. At necropsy lung, heart, kidney and liver were observed. On
histopathological examination the primary lesion was observed in the lung and was
characterized by pyogranulomatous and necrotizing pneumonia, subacute, moderate,
associated with myriad intralesional fungal structures. Pulmonary Aspergillosis is a fungal
infection and this is the first case diagnosed in dogs in routine Veterinary Hospital UFCG and
should be included as a differential diagnosis of respiratory tract diseases.
