Abstract:
This study aims to analyze how the character Menino-Aranha was constructed in the comic book Menino-Aranha, by Maurício de Sousa, published in 2012, taking into account its image and construction in the narrative, resulting from both the adaptation process and translation, through Plaza’s (2013) intersemiotic translation categories. Moreover, Jimmy Five’s and Spider-Man’s influences on MeninoAranha’s character and also the effects, who have originated him and also the effects resulting from the intersemiotic translation and adaptation to create the parody and carnivalization in the comic book are observed. In order to do so, the discussions on Intersemiotic Translation by Jakobson (2004) and Plaza (2013), on Semiotics by Pierce (2010), Eco (2002) and Pignatari (2004), translation of images by Kress & Leeuwen (2006), the considerations on Adaptation by Hutcheon (2013) and the studies about Parody and Carnivalization by Hutcheon (1985) and Faraco (2009), among others, have been applied. This research is embedded within the Translation Studies realm, being classified as descriptive, analytical, comparative, qualitative and product oriented (WILLIAMS; Chesterman, 2002), that is, with analysis focused on the product, and it focuses on the comics compared to the film that originates it. To compile the corpus, 15 movie scenes from Spider-Man (2002), by Sam Raimi, and 15 images from Menino-Aranha (2012) comic book, by Mauricio de Sousa, have been selected. Results have pointed to the construction of a suitable character to the context in which it operates - Children's comic book - with humorous purpose in the composition of the parody and carnivalization traits in contesting its social and moral role as a superhero transposed from one media to another with culture and different purposes.
