Resumen:
Many breeders of goats in the semi-arid Northeast face serious reproductive disorders
caused by eating plants and their derivatives. The Aspidosperma pyrifolium (pereiro) is a
major cause of miscarriage plants in northeastern Brazil, while the Mimosa tenuiflora is
responsible for major congenital defects in goats and sheep in the Northeast. The
cottonseed has been used in the diet of animals for milk production, but this product
contains gossypol which is responsible for causing reproductive problems. A property in
Santa Terezinha-PB, kids born with anatomical malformations, there were goats fed during
gestation with cottonseed and native pasture containing black jurema. Given that the
property had never appeared malformations in goats and that the neighboring farm females
calved without experience reproductive problems, and being the first time I was introduced
cottonseed in the diet of pregnant females, and for having a lot of jurema Black on the
property, it was decided to investigate whether these could have been the cause of
reproductive problems occurred. Given the above, a search using goats, these were divided
into groups, the first group (G1) goats were supplemented with cottonseed in the
proportion of 1.5% of body weight throughout gestation was performed in the second
group ( G2) animals were fed native pasture containing black jurema until the birth, and
the third group (G3) was used as control, this animal is not fed with cottonseed or even
with black jurema. Of the five goats that were fed cottonseed (G1), all showed an
exaggerated growth of breasts and three developed a framework for chronic mastitis. The
offspring of these goats were born without any problem malformation. Two Goats (G2)
had problems of fetal distorcias in one delivery was double, and the kids were born dead
with problems malformations. The progeny of the goats in the control group (G3) were
born healthy and had no problems malformation.
