Abstract:
The prevalence of overweight and obesity increases gradually each year, throughout the
world. There have been changes in the population's eating habits, which can affect
directly to health, including nutritional status (EN). In Brazil, Primary Care, having
front of the Family Health Strategy (ESF), is the place that should prioritize this care, since
organizes and supports the user, being closer to the community and being the gateway
of the Unified Health System. This study aimed to analyze the EN of individuals from a
municipality in the semi-arid region of Paraibano, according to the conditions of access to the ESF. for the aforementioned
study, a longitudinal, prospective cohort study was carried out with the aim of
verify the variations in weight and EN classification of adult individuals over the period
from 2011 to 2019, in the city of Cuité PB. Through a questionnaire, data were collected
for sociodemographic characterization, food insecurity, anthropometric data for
EN classification and on access to ESF, of 214 individuals. The prevalences were described
and the evolution of EN over time. As a result, it was observed that there was a reduction in access to ESF
between 2011 and 2019, especially among urban residents (-18.6%) and families
classified as food safety (-17.9%). As for EN, there was an increase in
overweight prevalence (2011: 49.1%; 2014: 52.3%; 2019: 60.2%), mainly
among individuals who did not access the FHS, and regression of the EN among those who did.
It is concluded that, among the individuals studied, there was a decrease in access to the FHS, as well as
weight regression among those who accessed the FHS, at the same time that excess excess
of weight, especially among those who did not access the strategy. It is known that there is a high
ESF coverage, but this does not guarantee access. Thus, it is of paramount importance that the
strategy is strengthened, and that nutritional care for overweight individuals and
obesity, are implemented and carried out.
