Resumo:
At every moment, Mathematics becomes more present and necessary in our daily lives. In this
work, a study on Differential Equations was carried out, emphatically on the Von Bertalanffy’s
model. This research aims to find an equation that more effectively describes the experimental
data of this study, referring to the weight of free range chickens raised outdoors (in non-
confinement). The methodology consists of the experimental part, of data collection (chicken’s
weight), and the theoretical part, in which the generalized Von Bertalanffy’s model was used to
describe the weight-age experimental data, calculate the values of the parameters existing in the
model. In this sense, it was possible to discuss the best time to slaughter the bird so that the rural
producer can reduce expenses and increase their profits. Thus, with this work, it was possible to
evaluate the bird’s growth process in terms of its weight and thus estimate how far it is profitable
to keep the chicken alive.
