Abstract:
The present study had the objective to determine the occurrence of gastrintestinal
parasites of domiciled and apparently healthy cats, resident in the cities of Patos-PB and
Parelhas-RN. Samples of feces were made individually in seriate samples and processed
by the technique of Willis-Mollay. Among the protozoa the most frequent in the
municipal district of Parelhas were the Isospora spp (20%), followed by the
Toxoplasma gondii (6,66%); protozoa were not observed in the samples originated from
Patos-PB. Among the helminths the most frequent in the samples of the municipal
district of Patos was the Toxascaris leonina (26,66%), followed by the Toxocara cati
(6,66%); in the samples originated from Parelhas the Ancylostoma spp (40%). The
parasites were in mixed infections in one animal (6,66%) in the samples of Patos and in
three animals (20%) in the samples of Parelhas. It concludes that the most frequent
parasites of cats are agents of zoonotic diaseases and, therefore, being a great relevance
for public health, it is recommended the accomplishment of periodic coproparasitolical
exames in a seriate type, followed by appropriate vermifuges outline besides of
preventive measures.
