Bees are social insects, excellent pollinating agents and producers of natural products used by man since ancient times. These products occupy more space every day, as they are an alternative in the treatment and lasts for diseases causing fewer side effects and less toxicity, among them propolis is the bee product that has stood out for having several chemical and bioactive compounds with great medicinal power. . The main objective of this work is to present the various therapeutic effects of propolis on diseases that affect man and animals, cited in the scientific literature, since the topic is of great relevance today. It also aims to describe the social organization of hives and bee products that can be used by man and animals. Propolis has proven action as an efficient disinfectant, corroborated by several scientific studies, where they show its bactericidal, bacteriostatic, antifungal, analgesic, healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-cariogenic, antioxidant properties, among others. This apitherapic has been used in several different situations, both in the service of human health and therapeutically in animals, in the treatment of infections, inflammations, wound healing, burns, respiratory disorders and others. The great unknown for the future will be to discover the type of propolis that will suit a certain type of disease. Knowing that this will not be an easy task for researchers, assuming that this bee product has a wide variety of bioactive substances in its composition, most of which have not yet been standardized due to the difficulty in identifying and interpreting them. them.
