Fraturas da pelve em cães e gatos - revisão de literatura.

Abstract

The injuries are considered a major cause of referral to the centers of dog care veterinarian in the world. Bones of the pelvic waist despite of well protected by the muscles, the fractures in this area are common, representing 20 to 25% of the fractures seen in small animals. The shape of box of the pelvis prevent the occurrence of single fractures. The purpose of the bibliographical review that follows was to contribute in the ambit of veterinary surgical clinical for a better understanding about complications coming from fractures of pelvis in dogs and cats, and, to serve as basis for discussion and development of future work in this area of knowledge, creating new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of the condition under study. The realization of studies on the pelvis are fundamental to obtain the necessary knowledge to evaluation and treatment of various coming from diseases such as, postural alteration, imbalances and muscular dysfunctions that affect this region. The medical history associated to the physical examination and allied to the radiographic monitoring are simple and low cost tools capable guiding the clinician to an appropriated procedure for the treatment of them pelvic fractures. The high cost of the equipment has been a clear impediment to the use of MRI inv veterinary medicine. This problem starts being overcome with the development of devices and the consequent reduction of the prices. The main advantages of the MRI over other methods of diagnostic by images are the not utilization of ionizing radiation and the early diagnosis of the changes of the tissues. There are several methods and techniques of corrections to injuries in the pelvis, and they may be or not to be surgical procedures that can promote recover of fractures in the pelvis.
