Abstract:
Retrospective study of the series of pyometra in bitches and cats at the Veterinary Hospital from 2003 to 2008. The objective of this work was to realize a retrospective study about the casuistic of pyometra in canines and felines attended in the ambulatory of the Pet Animals Clinic of The Veterinary Hospital, in UFCG, localized in Patos city, specifying the specie, breed, age, the reproductive historic, the use of contraceptive medicine, deaths, the instituted treatment, besides the presence of some alteration in the kidneys as consequence of the disease, in the period since 2003 to 2008, with the aim to present its incidence and the possible relation with the disease. In this period, 10226 canines and felines were attended, being 78,61% canines and 21,39% felines. Were found 115 cases of pyometra, corresponding 60, 78% of these occurrences in canines and 39,13% in felines. The great number of the canines and felines witch were affected had no breed defined, the majority cases detected are of exposed pyometra, the median of the age for the canine was between into 4 years and 6 months, and for the feline it was 5 years, the animals, in the majority of the cases had received contraceptive medicine for many times, the great part of the registers did not informed the reproductive historic, kidneys lesions occurred in 2 canines and in 5 felines. The treatment used was the ovarysalpingehisterectomy in all the cases. 7 canines of the total of animals attended died due pyometra.
