Resumo:
Given its importance as a key component of the short distance roadoriented
transport system
in the Agreste region, and its significant participation in the definition of local trade, this study
proposes a work of research on the architecture of bus stations, as well as an analysis of architectural
projects that include a terminal’s or street market’s set of needs and an understanding
of the relationship between building and new current dynamics in order to prepare a draftlevel
architectural requalification of the Cristiano Lauritzen Bus Terminal. In order to do so, it is
established the existence of a gap between the physical infrastructure of the building towards
the new needs of its users, as well as the belief that diversity and simultaneity of events inside
and outside of this space guarantee its timelessness and significance to the everyday life of their
consumers. Therefore, the proposal takes on the expansion of space permeability, maintenance
and enhancement of mixed uses, the appreciation of their qualities and readaptation of problematic
aspects as key historical intervention principles. Thus, understanding this controversial
universe that had become the old bus station through an architectural design that is based on
the improvement of the conditions of the place in response to the new space demands.
