Resumo:
Pyometra is an inflammation of the uterus, characterized by the accumulation of pus in the
uterine lumen that comes from an endometrial hyperplasia cystic (HEC) associated with a
bacterial infection. It is one of the diseases of the uterus more important because of their
frequency and severity. The objective of this document is realize a literature review, making a
reference of some endocrine and physiological aspects from of the dog and cat reproductive
system, also the defense mechanisms, estrous cycle, the main agents, clinical signs,
diagnostical forms and treatment of pyometra, considered the main uteropatia of small
animals.
