Resumen:
The creation and marketing of sheep breeding are heated and widespread growth, the
desingner has the challenge of increasing its business by investing in genetics are aware of
all changes in the market that can add value to its creation. Increasingly the use of
reproductive technologies has been giving a great impetus to these works, among them, the
artificial insemination. This paper aims to review the literature on the technique of artificial
insemination in sheep in the broad look like: evaluation of stallion, semen collection, the
methods by which it is made semen collection, semen evaluation regarding the macro and
microscopic (color, scent, volume of ejaculate, pH, bulk macroscopic motion,
concentration, mass movement or microscopic turbulence, individual progressive motility,
sperm morphology, vigor, survival rates), forms of use and processing of semen (fresh
semen , chilled and frozen), anatomy of the ovine cervix, physiology of reproduction in
sheep in different breeding seasons, breeding season, estrus synchronization and the main
techniques of insemination, vaginal, cervical superficial intracervical, transcervical and
laparoscopic, noting also the feasibility of using the technique, emphasizing the proper
management of health and nutrition, for only thus will be successful in the technique,
therefore, showed the current techniques and innovations in artificial insemination of
sheep, because the use and improvement of these techniques can increase productivity in
this species, thus increasing productive efficiency.
