To evaluate and compare clinically and histologically the use of the adhesive ethylcyanoacrylate
on repairing of skin surgical wounds, were used 5 adult sheep, clinically
healthy. Were formed two experimental groups (control and treatment), each represented by
one of the nasal paralumbar of each animal. For the experimental procedure, the animals were
sedated with xylazine and had both nasal paralumbar anesthetized with lidocaine and two
incisions were made of five centimeters into the skin in the center of each pit paralumbar.
Soon after the subcutaneous dead space was reduced with plain catgut number 2-0 in standard
suture in back-and-forth. The dermal suture the wounds of the control group was performed
with nylon monofilament number 0, in simple pattern separately and in the treatment group
with the ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive. The wounds were evaluated daily until the tenth
postoperative day as the swelling, discharge and dehiscence. For histological evaluation of
healing, biopsies were taken from both experimental wounds (control and treatment groups) at
10, 20, 30 days after surgery, and each fragment was evaluated for the presence of crusts,
thickening and retraction of the epidermis, fibrosis, inflammation and necrosis. The surgical
procedure lasted on average 16.2 ± 1.92 minutes in the control group and 11.2 ± 2.58 minutes
in the treatment group and both groups induced good healing process both macroscopically
and histologically.
The results showed that the ethyl-cyanoacrylate adhesive has good adhesion, and when
employed in the synthesis of skin wounds in sheep, reduced the time of realization of the
surgical procedure in 30,9%, not interfering with the scarring procedure and providing
excellent aesthetic results without the need for removal the points.
