Abstract:
Microbiological and cytological evaluation of dogs with conjunctivitis treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Campina Grande. The conjunctivitis is one of the more common ocular diseased dog’s eyes, where your complications to compromise the vision of the attacked animals grave. The exams microbiologic and cytological are resources than aid in the diagnosis, allowing instituting correct treatments for those diseased. It was aimed at with that study to do an evaluation microbiologic and cytological of samples of the conjunctiva of dogs with conjunctivitis, in order to establish the involved patógenos, sensibility the antimicrobials and the cellular pattern. This way, 20 dogs, males and females were used, without race and age defined, with apparent signs of conjunctivitis that submitted the consultation in the clinic of small animals of HV-UFCG, in the period of February to November of 2009. After the physical contention of the animals cleaning were the eyelids, samples of the secretion conjunctival and of the conjunctive they were collected with the aid of swab of sterile cotton, and soon after they were conditioned in appropriate means and directed to the laboratories to have owed analysis. It was observed in the exam microbiologic what 92,5% (37) of the samples they presented microbial growth, and composing this perceptual one the isolated microorganisms was Staphylococcus positive coagulase (87,5%) and Streptococcus spp. (5%) respective, 7,5% (3) of the 40 samples studied absence of growth of microorganisms. Chosen was aleatory 20 samples to try susceptibility antibiotics diffusion in disks where it was observed that the isolated microorganisms were more sensitive the oxacillin and the cefalexin (94%), already with relation to the resistance the ampiciline (89%) and the tetracycline (44%) were antibiotics with the percentage large. In the cytological exam the cellular pattern was characterized by predominance of cells in groupings, being these of the superficial and intermediate layer with your preserved morphology, beyond great amount of polimorphonuclear cells. We can conclude that occurs most frequently in disorders of the conjunctiva of dogs that were treated at the UFCG-HV, is coagulase positive, the latter being more sensitive to oxacillin and cephalexin, and the use of these drugs is shown in clinical routine. But for the cytological examination, one can conclude that cell morphology presented by most cells preserved, despite the installation of the inflammatory process by viewing cells were typical of the collection site and plenty of inflammatory cells, which was already expected by pathology. Given the above it is recommended the use of cytology and microbiological testing, as well as the completion of conjunctiva in clinical practice.
