Resumo:
Artificial insemination in equine is an important reproductive biotechnology that comes
with each day more space on the world stage. The development of modern techniques of
handling of semen and insemination comes popularizing its use, and improving their
results. Use of appropriate techniques entails a complex range of knowledge of
reproductive morfophisiology, modifications of the estrous cycle, mare sexual behavior,
follicular dynamics and changes of uterine texture occurring throughout the oestrus. Semen
can be used fresh, chilled and frozen and, for each technique, various diluents and specific
protocols for its preparation. The aim of this work was to present a review of the various
components related to the techniques of insemination on horses.
