Abstract:
Sandostone reefs are favorable places for the life of several benthic organisms, due to
being close to terrestrial systems, receivinge a relevant amount of sediment, which increases
the supply of food for some organisms that live there. This work aims to characterize the
structure and distribution of the nematofaunistic community in the sandstone reef region of
Pirangi do Sul beach-RN. Two sampling were made in 2019, one in April (rainy season) and
another in October (dry season). The sampling sites were along the sandstone reef area with
six sampling points in the intertidal zones, each of these points with three replicateds, sediment
material was also collected for granulometric analysis. The sediment presented fine to medium
sand granulometry, with fine sand dominant in the rainy season. The nematofauna was
represented by 13 genera: Anomonema, Ascolaimus, Bathylaimus, Daptonema, Halalaimus,
Metadesmolaimus, Monoposthia, Nemanema, Nudora Rhinema Prorhynchonema,
Rhynchonema, Thalassomonhystera. The dry season presented a higher density of organisms
compared to the rainy season, the genus Daptonema had the highest frequency of occurrence
in both periods, occurring in 72% of the samples, showing similarities with other studies
realized in reef areas.
