Résumé:
Fractures are common in animals, often the object of study due to diagnostic difficulties and
consolidation. Because the incidence of fractures at the Veterinary Hospital (HV) of the
federal university of Campina Grande (FUCG), in Patos – PB, and the fact that approach of
fracture in cats is linked to the routine of professionals in this species, it is believed in the
importance of study of this subject. Therefore, this paper aims to review the issue by
addressing the most common types of fractures in felines, healing complications and the main
forms of treatment, with the objective of assisting the professional from the initial treatment
of the fracture until complete bone healing, addition to raising the sample of fractures in this
species, in that Veterinary Hospital in the period 2005 to 2011. The study was carried out by
addressing the medical records of the HV / UFCG, where it was observed that the fractures
occur more in male gats, and trampling the main cause of the primary treatment and surgery.
Veterinarians should orthopedic surgeons to specialize more and more to meet the expectation
in the successful outcome.
