Resumen:
The connection and interaction of humans with all kinds of animals can be observed in
different periods of human evolution. The zootherapy, therapeutic method where the
animal is used as the main part of the treatment is aimed at promoting physical, social,
emotional and / or cognitive functions of people. It is a supporting process, parallel and
facilitator, not replacing any conventional therapy. The aim of this study was the main
means zootherapy as its indications, and benefits cited in the scientific literature in a clear
and objective, and evaluate the participation of veterinarians in this practice. The
zootherapy can serve as an aid in treating various diseases such as genetic syndromes,
hyperactivity, depression, Alzheimer's, brain injury, among others. It assumes that love and
friendship that may arise between the interaction of humans and animals produce many
benefits.
