Resumo:
The objective of this work was to determine the poisonous effect of the Copernicia
prunifera (carnauba) in pregnant guinea pigs (Cavia porcelus). Twelve animals were
separated in two groups. The first of eight guinea pigs ground C. prunifera fruits mixed
with ground Pennisetum clandestinum. The control group with 4 guinea pigs ingested
only pennisetum clandestinum. Of the 8 guinea pigs that ingested fruits, 3 were not
pregnant, one aborted before the ingestion of the fruits, and 4 delivered normal pups.
From the 4 control guinea pigs, 2 were not pregnant and 2 delivered normal pups. It is
ended that the intoxication for the fruits of the Copernicia prunifera doesn’t cause
reproductive problems, no toxicity to offspring and even for adults.
