Estudo retrospectivo da casuística de fraturas de tíbia em cães e gatos no Hospital Veterinário da UFCG / Campus de Patos (Período de estudo: 2002 a 2010).

Abstract

Retrospective study of the series of tibia fractures in dogs and cats at the Veterinary Hospital of UFCG / Patos Campus (Study period: 2002 to 2010). Fractures of the tibia are common in dogs and cats, often the object of study due to diagnostic difficulties and consolidation. Because the incidence of fractures at the Veterinary Hospital of Patos - PB in the period 2002 to 2010, and the fact that approach of tibial fracture in dogs and cats is linked to the routine of professionals in this species, it is believed in the importance of study of this subject. Therefore, this paper aims to review the issue by addressing the most common types of fractures, healing complications and the main forms of treatment, with the objective of assisting the professional from the initial treatment of the fracture until complete bone healing. The study was carried out by addressing the medical records of the HV / UFCG, where it was observed that the fractures of the tibia occur more in male dogs, and trampling the main cause of the primary treatment and surgery. Veterinarians should orthopedic surgeons specialize more and more to meet the expectation in the successful outcome.
