Resumen:
Technological advances, environmental issues and market requirements are factors that have
led organizations to discuss their relationship with the environment and the impacts of
technology use. From this perspective, the adoption of sustainable practices began to be
observed in order to minimize the problems caused to the natural environment. The socalled
Green Information Technology (Green IT) was created for this purpose, focusing part of its
efforts on reducing the environmental impacts caused to the Planet. Following this logic, the
present study aims to analyze whether the aspects inherent to the adoption of green IT, at the
Center for Legal and Social Sciences (CCJS), at the Federal University of Campina Grande
(UFCG), impact on environmental sustainability. For that, it was necessary to carry out a case
study, with the application of a questionnaire with the team that works, directly or indirectly,
in the management (28) and in the IT sector (1) of the CCJS/UFCG, which resulted in a total
of 29 valid answers, and the analysis of institutional documents that deal with issues related to
the environment. The questionnaire included questions related to the profile of respondents, as
well as their perception of the adoption of green IT and its impact on environmental
sustainability. The data show that although the CCJS/UFCG is concerned with acquiring more
efficient equipment, outsourcing printers, videoconferencing and digitizing documents, it still
needs to work with the issue of using recycled paper, programming computers to shut down
outside of shifts of work, among others. Furthermore, it is noted that Environmental Guidance
and Government Guidance exert a significant (pvalue
< 0.05) and positive influence on the
implementation of ITgreen
Actions in the institution, and that this has a positive and
significant influence ( pvalue
< 0.01) on Environmental Sustainability.
