Abstract:
Evaluation of sperm and testicular characteristics of sheep infected with Brucella ovis. Brucellosis is an infectious disease of great importance in the reproductive context. In sheep can cause significant economic losses due to the effects that cause, both males leading to conditions of epididymitis and orchitis, as in females, with sporadic abortions. Considering these aspects, the aim of this work is to observe if there are changes and alterations in testicular morphology and sperm concentration of sheep infected with B. ovis. For this study we used 4 sheep bulls, Santa Ines with one to two years of age. After the adaptation period, the animals were divided into two groups: the control group, consisting of 1 animals (n = 1) and treaty group, consisting of 3 animals (n = 3). In the treated group the animals were inoculated with a suspension of infectious Brucella ovis. Four samples were taken from each animal semen for evaluation of sperm morphology and concentration. The ultrasound evaluation of testis and epididymis was performed biweekly intervals, until 45 days after inoculation. It was concluded that there was no statistical difference in the assessment of morphology and sperm concentration of sheep in the studied groups and no changes have been identified in the testis and epididymis of animals to ultrasound examination 45 days after inoculation of B. ovis.
