Resumen:
Due to the importance of the integrity of the equine foot for support and a locomotor support
system, skilled exploration, it is imperative the knowledge of pathogenesis that may compromise
their morphofunctional properties, related to epidemiological factors and the frequency of these
occurrences. With this approach, we conducted a study in the medical clinic of large animals in the
Veterinary Hospital of the Health Center and Rural Technology of Federal University of Campina
Grande-PB/Patos, making the lifting of these occurrences in the period January 2000 to December
2013, through material recorded in chips and clinical records filed and in recent months by
monitoring the routine outpatient attendances. In this way, was catalogued a total of 5,803 animals
attended at this sector, of which, 2,205 equines, in other words, 38% of cases registered. With a
check of performing different locomotor disorders of 587, amounting to 26.6%, among which, the
record of 95 occurrences of foot disorders, correlative to 16.2% of performing different locomotor
diseases recorded in the period researched. Observing a casuistic service annual equine in 2013,
with 266 hits, which represents a percentage of 60.7%, noting that one of the disorders of the foot,
were more occurring laminitis (47.4% of cases), puncture wounds (24.2%) and Osteitis of the
distal phalanx (10.5% of occurrences), being pretty prevalent the occurrence of laminitis in adults
horses of quarter horse. It is considered effective diagnostic and therapeutic resources adopted in
foot disorders in horses, the institution that hosted the research.
