Résumé:
Due to the difficulties in managing viary networks, a
Geografic Information System, GIS, was developed for viary
planning (GIS is a system which integrates maps and
descriptive information). This system helps the
transportation engineer make decisions quickly and
efficiently, without the manual methods that have been used.
The system, called SIGTRANS, works with maps which hold ali
the information that is relevant to the viary network. It
generates, automatically, excellent routes for public
transport according to the criteria formulated by the
tranportation engineer. It also calculates points of demand
using Heuristics and Operationaí Research algorithms.
SIGTRANS was successfully tested using data from Novo
Bodocongó III, Campina Grande's suburb in Paraíba, State of
Brazil.
