Resumo:
This dissertation is the result of our master's research that aimed to investigate how the actions
of the Boqueirão Literary Festival (FLIBO) are characterized in relation to the process of
readers' development. The specific objectives are: (a) to describe the circumstances
surrounding the creation of the Boqueirão Literary Festival; (b) outline the history of the
Boqueirão Literary Festival, based on the programming, social medias and news of its ten first
editions and (c) register memories of social subjects and reading mediators involved in the
Festival in order to analyze their representations about FLIBO and its relationship with the
process of readers’ development. FLIBO emerged in 2010 and since then promotes a literary
event annually with lectures, round tables, workshops and cultural presentations that take
place in public squares, openly and free of charge. In addition, there are actions in public and
private schools that precede the event. We justify this work by the social contribution that our
object implies in a small town in the interior of Paraíba and in other initiatives in the state, by
the originality of the research and by the reading indexes indicated by national organizations.
Methodologically, it is a qualitative and descriptive research, which involves a case study and
a documentary research. The instruments used were content analysis and interviews. We base
our analysis on Horellou-Lafarge and Segré (2010), Rouxel (2014), Certeau (1994), on the
concept of literary readers’ development; Candido (2004), Bourdieu (1979), Soares (1998;
2008) on democratization of reading; Chartier (1999;2001) on reading practices and Rajewsky
on intermediality; Martin-Barbero (1987) on mediation and Petit (2008; 2009) on reading
mediation; Bordini and Aguiar (1998) on the role of the school in the formation of readers and
on the concept of Educating Cities in Bernet (1997), Brada and Ríos (2004) and Cabezudo
(2004). At the end of this work, it was possible to rescue the history of the Literary Festival of
Boqueirão and verify some of its characteristics along its trajectory, the main ones being: the
educational and cultural bias, the female protagonism, the use of democratic places for the
propagation of the reading, the diversity of reading practices and intermediality.
