Abstract:
Knowing that FNS is a relevant topic in the context of child health, it is
There is a need for greater knowledge of organizations working against Insecurity
Food (AI). The National Food and Nutrition Security Policy (PNSAN) aims to
promote FNS and help fight hunger and malnutrition through programs and actions.
All these actions promoted should be enough to reach all families in
social vulnerability, but this does not happen. The reality is that, in this scenario, many
non-profit social organizations emerge and act to fill gaps left
by the government, helping many families that are not benefited by the programs and actions of the
state. The present work sought to evaluate the role of the Pastoral da Criança in the promotion of
Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) of children aged 6 months to 2 years old
in the municipality of Frei Martinho, in Paraíba. This is an exploratory study of an analytical-
descriptive study carried out with the guardians of children aged between 6 months and 2 years old assisted
by the Pastoral da Criança in the municipality of Frei Martinho, data were collected from
a questionnaire adapted to the existing one in the Pastoral developed on the Google platform
Forms. A local analysis of the characterization and performance of the Pastoral da Criança was carried out
as a social entity in the municipality of Frei Martinho in Paraíba in the year 2022 and its relationship
with FNS in children aged 6 months to 2 years. It was observed that, of the 24 families that
participated in the study, most of the children were assisted by the Pastoral while they were still pregnant.
There is a prevalence of early food introduction of the participating children, which can
be related to sociodemographic and cultural conditions, some mothers claim to have
contribution of the Pastoral da Criança to improve the nutrition of their children, from
formative moments or guidelines passed on by the leader, while other mothers say they do not
to have. It is necessary that mothers have greater ownership over issues related to
feeding children and that assistance organizations enhance the transfer of these
information, given that poor nutrition in childhood may be related to
health complications at other stages of life.
